Numbers and time: thirteen, half past seven, £3.50
Hear the difference between thirteen and thirty, tell the time the British way, read dates, prices and phone numbers. And do not fall for half seven.
You can start right here: nothing needed first.
Why
On the Eurostar the announcement says: We will arrive in London at half past seven. Your English friend texts: See you at half seven. What time do you need to be ready?
You hear numbers everywhere: the price at the till, the platform for your train, the time you are meeting, a phone number. If you mishear them, you end up on the wrong platform or an hour late.
English counts differently from Dutch. You say forty-seven, tens first, not ‘seven-and-forty’ as in Dutch. And the British half seven is the Dutch ‘half acht’. You learn all that here, with your ears and with your eyes.
