Prepositions: at, on, in
At a clock time, on a day, in a month or a year. And for places: at a point, on a surface, in a space.
Why
You are arranging to meet your pen friend in London. Do you say in Saturday, on Saturday or at Saturday? And do you wait in, on or at the station?
To make plans you need two things: when and where. That is exactly where you find the smallest words in English: at, on and in.
Dutch has ‘in’, ‘op’ and ‘om’ too, but they do not match one to one. Dutch says ‘in het weekend’ and ‘op de bus’, English says at the weekend and on the bus. One simple picture helps you remember.
