Why

After the school trip to London you write to your pen friend about what you did. How do you tell them?

You tell people about your weekend, your holiday or yesterday's match in the past simple: We visited the Tower of London. I bought a red bus for my brother. We didn't see the King.

Every story, every fairy tale and almost every news report is in this tense. Once you know the past simple, you can say what happened and read stories in English.
